In life, with all of the hustle and bustle, we forget how nice it is to eat together as family and friends, we forget how good it is to be able to cook together. And I realised this holy month brings everyone together, there is a sense of peace within everyone.
Looking at my Muslim friends all these years and asking them about the importance of this festival I came to this understanding that this month is a chance for people to get closer to God. In the holy month of Ramadan, there are more opportunities to ask for forgiveness and to forgive others. Ramadan teaches patience and virtue throughout. It brings families and communities closer. It is a chance for Muslims to pray and do good deeds and even give to the poor and needy.
I mean WOW! I go wow just by the idea of it. I finally understood the meaning and essence of Ramadan and how beneficial it can be for everyone. Many people are of the opinion that festivals are celebrated because of their importance in particular community or religion. I totally agree with them but then I see people of different communities and religion celebrating the same festival as others. It is not about religion or caste. It is the bond which is being created between individuals, it is the feeling, that yes we belong, for some it’s a motivation and also a sense of joy. India well known for its diversity, I believe we should start acknowledging the beauty of such rich culture around us and share with each other. Festivals motivate us to be better people and to share our joy with the world.

On that note, this Ramadan, see how many prayers you can get in. See how many poor people you can help and how many good deeds you can achieve. Even if that means simply smiling at those who walk past, or helping the elderly.
If you’re Non-Muslim like me, be empathetic to those who are fasting, educate yourself on what the meaning of Ramadan is and most of all be kind to others.
