Muthathi – lil chat with the forest🌳🌴

This was another 200kms classic and formal trip to this wonderful place. It was a green forest ride throughout and what a view I tell u!

We started early in the morning and planned a long stretch as we had to cover 200 kms. As the sun was just coming up, it was icy cold and a beautiful morning. We took 30kms stretch and stopped for breakfast.

We were going from Mysore in Mallavalli road, den we come to Halagur, from Halagur take a right turn to Bheemeshwari (20 kms), from Bheemeshwari further 5 kms to Muthathi.

We have to go into the forest to reach Muthathi from Sathanur. At the entrance of the forest, there is a watchman with a register. No entrance fee.

Alright, now the muthathi forest ride began. Once we passed Sathnur about 5kms was in pretty bad condition. There were too many potholes. Once we completed this stretch we spotted 2 peacocks on the road-side. We rode very slowly through the forest enjoying the greenery and not disturbing the flora & fauna of the place. The forest was lush green and seemed much thicker. The ride in the forest in a narrow road just next to the huge deep valleys is an unforgettable experience. There are lot of hair pin turns inside the forest on the way and we have to be careful at these points.

Brief

Muthathi is a small village, near which the river runs shallow and wide. Road to Muthathi runs parallel to the river and makes a pleasant drive. Muthathi is surrounded by hills from all sides. You will see nice hills view when you are on the hills 5 kms before Muthathi. The trees and environment will look like any hill station. After this hills view, the road will go down sharp to the valley. Thereafter you will find a temple of lord Hanuman, called as Padadhara Anjaneya swami temple. There is another hanuman temple in Muthathi, known as Muthetharaya temple. This temple has some mythological importance. When Devi Sita was taking bath at this place, her nose stud fell down in the river. Hanuman came to the place, found the stud and returned to Sita devi. That’s why Hanuman got the name Muthetharaya here.

As we almost reached near the temple, we were greeted by Cauvery river side awesome landscape. The view though was pretty good. Cauvery in her full flow, and the hills lining the background. Many tourists after visiting the temple visit here in families, prepare food and enjoy their time. The most irritating point is they forget to clean their stuff. Littering has spoiled the surroundings here. Fishing is banned by Government in this region . There were caution boards put up indicating to beware of whirl pools and crocodiles in the river, beware not to go deep. Various shapes of stones can be found which are formed by continuous flow of water. I liked the black granite stones formed all over.
The good thing about the place is that it does not get very crowded in the weekends(At least yet!) and even if it does, there is enough open space that you can always find some nice and empty area near the bank for yourself.

After spending some time in muthathi we went towards bheemeshwari. On one side u find rama anjaneya temple and On the other side you will find Bheemeswari Adventure and Nature Camp and Kavery Fishing Camp. They charge 1300/- per person for day trip and much more for night halts. You have to book before hand for the nature and fishing camps.

Tips

-There is no good hotels in muthathi village so I recommend you carry sufficient food and fuel stuffs while exploring this awesome forest.
-Mobile signals are completely off in this region.
-This place is known for cheat deaths, so be careful not to go deep into the water.
-No accommodation nearby muthathi village & bheemeshwari camp is not a worth to stay.
-The places close by are chunchi falls, sangama and mekedatu.

Overall a must visit weekend spot with family and friends where one can spend a whole day enjoying the forest, riverside and awesome landscapes.

Move. Go out for the world around you. They hold the peace and color u have been craving for, all the while. Muthathi was definitely one such place. Being at places like these you sometimes hope time just froze. At the end of the day, away from the city chaos, I can definitely claim I had a little chat with the forest.
